We have heard about Children’s day? Women’s day? Mother’s day?….What is this National Technology Day?

India has declared 11th May as the ‘National Technology Day’. On this very day in 1998, Indian scientists acheived major breakthroughs in

1. Mastering of the nuclear weapons technology (Pokharan II) through a series of controlled tests at Pokharan,

2. Test firing of the indigenously developed Trishul missile and

3. Test flight of the indigenous aircraft Hansa-3.

Central Silk Technological Reasearch Institute(CSTRI) is commemorating National Technolgy Day in its Central Silk Board campus located in BTM Layout, Madivala, Bangalore. CSTRI is the premier post cocoon silk research institute in India and has undertaken several innovations in the field of silk textiles.

Dr. Arindham Basu, Director, CSTRI in an exclusive interview with Silk Mark

“Today, on the eve of National Technology Day, the latest developments and the innovations of the Institute are on display for the students and public and can interact with Scientists from the Institute. The products developed through  Product Design, Development and Diversification Division (P3D) are also showcased. The  testing, identification, quality,  maintenance and care of silk etc are the topics of interest for the consumer. The scientists also explain about the costing of products.”
